As President of the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC), I am honoured to serve our great sporting nation and to lead our continued journey toward Olympic excellence. Our mission extends beyond athletic achievement, it embodies Qatar's unwavering commitment to excellence, unity and the transformative power of sport.

Since our establishment in 1979, the QOC has committed to bringing world-class sporting events to Qatar. Our aim is to showcase our nation’s hospitality to the world, and to inspire individuals in Qatar, across our region, and around the globe to engage in sport.

Today, we stand proudly as one of the world’s premier international sports hubs. We have consistently demonstrated our ability to host world-class events — from the FIFA World Cup 2022, the World Aquatics Championships 2024, and the World Athletics Championships in 2019, to countless others over the past few decades. Qatar has earned a well-deserved reputation for delivering an optimal environment where athletes can perform at their peak. Looking ahead, we are excited to welcome the ISSF World Shooting Championships in 2026, the FIBA Basketball World Cup in 2027, and the Asian Games in 2030 — milestones that underscore our unwavering dedication to the global sports movement.

Our Team Qatar athletes consistently demonstrate the power of sport in our nation, proudly representing Qatar on the international stage. From our trailblazing female athletes at London 2012 – Noor Al-Malki, Nada Arakji, Bahiya Al-Hamad and Aya Majdi – to our historic gold medallists at Tokyo 2020, Fares Ibrahim El-Bakh and Mutaz Essa Barshim, Team Qatar has inspired millions by breaking barriers, defy expectations and achieving excellence at the highest level.

As a National Olympic Committee (NOC), our role extends far beyond elite competition. We believe strongly in the unifying power of sport. We are dedicated to promoting the Olympic values and ensuring that the benefits of sport are accessible and inclusive for all. Boys and girls, women and men, old and young, athletes and para-athletes, we want everyone’s lives to be touched by sport.

Our vision is clear: to become a leading nation in bringing the world together through sustainable sport development. This vision aligns perfectly with the Qatar National Vision 2030 and reflects our belief that sport is a universal language that transcends borders, cultures and differences. Through our mission to spread sport and physical activity across the country, we are building a healthier, more active society while creating global friendships and opportunities.

As we look toward the future, we will continue to open Qatar to the world, placing our world-leading venues and facilities at the service of global sport development. We will continue to prioritise collaboration with our fellow NOCs, with the International Olympic Committee (IOC), with International Federations, educational institutes, and NGOs to facilitate knowledge exchange and innovation for mutual growth. Our focus on sustainability ensures that our sporting legacy will benefit future generations, while our emphasis on inclusivity guarantees that sport remains accessible to all members of our society.

Together, we will continue to elevate Qatar's position in the global sporting community while staying true to the Olympic values of excellence, friendship and respect.

Joaan Bin Hamad Al-Thani
